Night Light / 2025 / Steel, Acrylic, Electrical wires, Leather / 228 x 76 cm

Night Light is a sculptural lamp handmade from steel and salvaged acrylic orbs. The rust, the abrasion, the worn paint: these material traces imply use, neglect, perhaps even violence – but leave their true origins open to interpretation. Exploring what can be read in the aging of a machine, this material investigation imbues a subtle storytelling – rather than building a world in the speculative, utopian sense, the piece gestures toward a form of world-remembering: a folding in of time where past, present, and potential futures coexist. Its futurist and post-industrial aesthetic positions it as an artifact from an indeterminate era, shaped by unknown hands, carrying both function and myth.

At its core, Night Light is moved by contradictions: the collision of industrial materials and human touch, the artificial and the organic. The electrical wires are carefully woven into the Josephine/Awaji knot – a cross-cultural symbol of unity and eternity – before being sheathed in leather and resolving in a polished chrome orb. Though built from industrial materials, Night Light is intimate in presence – inviting close looking and a tactile encounter with time made visible.

Bio
Tech is a Montreal-based artist currently pursuing a BFA in Intermedia (Cyberarts) at Concordia University. Working at the intersection of art and design, her practice explores futurist storytelling through material engagement with light, metal, and technology. She is interested in how worn or weathered machines can evoke their own speculative histories — inviting viewers to imagine futures shaped by both human and non-human touch.
