GRAHAM KRENZ he/him
Thistle Table / Oak, applewood, and Douglas fir
The piece is a table/coat rack I designed to supplement an existing sculpture, until I completed it and realized it had a life entirely its own. I have been thinking of invasive species for a long time, imagining how to reconcile the beauty of flowers like thistles and dandelions with the implications of what they are: plants brought here by colonizers that have taken over entire ecosystems. I thought there was something fun about the idea of having a sculpted thistle that I had labored over be covered by a jacket or hat.
