Plus qu’une forme statique, il dialogue avec son environnement. Ses surfaces réagissent à la lumière au fil de la journée et ses qualités tactiles invitent au toucher, créant un lien sensoriel avec l’utilisateur.
Cette philosophie s’étend à sa fonction. Conçu pour la détente, il propose un support ergonomique équilibré et intègre un compartiment discret, servant à la fois de tiroir et de table d’appoint — un élément fonctionnel qui s’intègre habilement au quotidien.
DAVID UPSHALL
est un designer et artisan ébéniste basé à Montréal, spécialisé dans le mobilier et l’objet. Ayant amorcé son parcours en design de mode, il transpose aujourd’hui son sens du vêtement à l’aménagement des espaces. Son travail établit un pont entre tradition et contemporanéité en unissant des qualités en apparence opposées : légèreté et masse, abstraction et utilité, ordre géométrique et élan organique. Chaque pièce naît d’une problématique précise, façonnée par un dialogue avec la matière et une recherche d’équilibre visuel. Bien que techniquement abouties, ces solutions s’inscrivent dans une esthétique rétro-futuriste où la fonction devient récit. Cette intégration minutieuse crée une tension subtile, donnant naissance à des pièces qui invitent autant à l’usage qu’à la contemplation.

is rooted in the idea of presence. A piano, with its scale and resonance, can alter a space simply by being there. This chair is designed to carry a similar weight, to be perceived not merely as seating, but as an object that establishes a rhythm in the room.
More than a static form, it engages with its environment: surfaces respond to light throughout the day, and tactile qualities invite touch, creating a sensory connection with the user.
This philosophy extends to its function. Designed for deep relaxation, the chair provides a
balanced ergonomic support and includes a discreet integrated compartment that serves as both storage and a side table, making it a seamlessly functional part of everyday life.
DAVID UPSHALL
is a Montreal-based designer and woodworker specializing in furniture and objects. Originally trained in fashion design, he is now building a practice focused on the art of dressing spaces through wood. His work bridges traditional and contemporary realms, uniting seemingly oppositional qualities: buoyancy and mass, abstraction and utility, geometric order and organic impulse. Each piece emerges from a specific problem, shaped by a dialogue with material and a pursuit of visual balance. While technically accomplished, these solutions recede behind a retro-futuristic aesthetic where function becomes poetry. This careful integration produces a subtle tension, resulting in pieces that invite both use and contemplation.
